Google Business Profile Ranking Factors, Visualised for 2026

An interactive breakdown of what actually moves local pack, local organic, and AI search visibility - click through GBP signals, reviews, on-page, links, citations, and more to see how much weight each one carries.

What it does

Three visibility contexts.
One tool.

Local Pack / Maps
The factor weighting behind Google's map pack results - where GBP signals carry the most weight of any group.
Local Organic
Regular blue-link rankings for locally-intended searches, where on-page and link signals dominate instead.
AI Search
How ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews weight the same signals differently again when citing a local business.

Hover or click on any factor in the lists below, or choose one from the dropdown, and this panel will show a short explanation of how it affects local rankings and AI visibility.

Why it matters

Local SEO ranking factors aren't one list - they're three.

Priorities shift by context

GBP signals carry 32% of the weight in the local pack, but only 7% in local organic results. Optimising for one without the other leaves visibility on the table.

AI search weights things differently again

Citation and review signals matter more to AI Overviews and chat-based search than they do to classic local organic rankings - a separate strategy is starting to matter.

Sourced from real industry data

Factor weightings are based on Whitespark's local ranking factor survey, not guesswork - the same data local SEO practitioners already reference.

FAQ

Questions you're
probably asking.

Where does the factor weighting data come from?
The percentages are based on Whitespark's local search ranking factors research, a well-known annual survey of local SEO practitioners. We built this tool to make that data easier to explore than a static chart.
Why do the same signals carry different weight in each group?
Local Pack (map results), Local Organic (blue links), and AI Search each have a different algorithm behind them, so the same signal - reviews, for example - can matter far more in one context than another. That's the whole point of splitting the tool into three groups instead of one flat list.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes, no sign-up required. Use it as often as you like.
Can Whizz People help improve our actual GBP ranking?
Yes - that's what our Local SEO service covers: GBP optimisation, review strategy, citation cleanup, and local content, scoped to whichever of these factor groups matters most for your business.
